Verizon Preparing to Launch 4G Network Next Year
Currently cell phone manufacturers everywhere are going 4G crazy. Forget 3G, that is just so last year. Verizon is the latest cell phone manufacturer to jump on the 4G bandwagon. The company recently announced that they have finished their initial tests for their 4G wireless service. This service will offer speeds which are anywhere between five times to ten times faster than the current, existing networks. It is expected that the network will roll out next year in 2010.
Verizon will be using Long Term Evolution, or LTE, which is a new technology. Using it, the manufacturer succeeded in making calls in both Seattle and Boston. They will be the first cities who offer these faster services.
These calls used a spectrum once assigned to television stations which has recently been freed for use by cell phones — the 700 MHz spectrum.
It is expected that the download speeds for the new network will range from seven to twelve Mbps.
All of the United States are expected to be able to use the new 4G network by 2013.
